Jubilee Fun Day 2012

On a windy but sunny 2nd  June, members and guests of Douglas Park Bowling Club gathered to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Everyone was asked to dress in red, white and blue and all willingly made the effort to comply.

The games began with a “Spider” and followed with a Round Robin of “nonsense” bowls which caused much hilarity on the Green.  A specially designed Diamond Jubilee target mat was created for the day by Rene Ireland.

After the games players and guests moved into the Clubhouse which looked resplendent with bunting and balloons themed in red, white and blue to suit the occasion.  Afternoon tea was served at a “street party” table and concluded with Jelly and Ice Cream. Life members Ray Bennie and Bob Simpson cut a celebration cake that was then shared by all.

Vice President Douglas Hamilton presented prizes to the winners.  The Spider was won by Joyce Henney; Bowls by Barbara McIntosh, Alex Fisher and Campbell Carr, who also won the Jubilee Target. Joan Ure, Brian Mustoo and Davie Cameron won the regular Target. The prizes for the best dressed went to Marion and Davie Cameron. Marion Currie, Alex Fisher and John Cook received special recognition prizes.

Special thanks were given to George Ireland/Games Organiser and Joyce Henney/Event Organiser and all who helped on the day. Thanks also go to all members and guests who gave their support and fully entered into the spirit of fun and friendship.
